The modern Central Library in Duisburg provides a dynamic learning, reading, working and gathering space for the community.
The 4,000 square meter building has a central glass roof which creates an open, light filled space. Ramps connect multiple levels, and make the library accessible to all users.
An emphasis on early development is readily apparent in the fun and brightly colored children’s area. The playhouse-like design and easy-to-reach shelves creates an inviting space where children can gather and enjoy creative activities.
A separate YA space is clearly designed for gathering and socializing, and has an emphasis bold graphics.
Other private nooks provide quiet spaces for reading.
